An alumnus of Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in the arts when she was growing in her teens. She took part in singing competitions she performed in her high school's theatre program and sang in choirs. She then moved into Los Angeles and studied theatre at the University of Southern California. For a year and an half, she portrayed Belle the princess in Beauty and the Beast. Her main goal was to find a reputable talent agent. She then auditioned for roles on TV and Film. Butler played a part in the TV show CSI: Miami. Butler was the main character in I Spit on Your Grave (2010) the film that is a remake of a 1978 classic film with identical title. The film initially was an unpopular choice for her due to the of the violence, nakedness as well as gender-based subtexts. However, the compelling narrative and feminist elements helped her decide to accept the role. Directed by Steven R. Monroe the film was released on October 8th, 2010. In November of 2011, Butler and Estella Warren started filming the psychological thriller The Stranger Within in Mallorca, Spain. The film was also made on location in Copenhagen Denmark as well as New York City. In June 2012, she teamed up with Michael Biehn in the Los Angeles production of Treachery.
